The deep center of gravity makes it harder to scale back the shot's distance for shorter evasive shots on tree-lined courses.
Additionally, hitting from the rough is problematic with the Big Bertha , as its large head makes divots almost a certainty. In these situations, a driver with a more traditionally sized club-head will work much better than the Big Bertha driver. The Callaway Big Bertha is a cc titanium driver currently out of production but still available from various dealers. It is a predecessor to the new Big Bertha The was made similar to the original Big Bertha line and boasts a thin titanium face, S2H2 bore-through hosel and six lofts: 8-, 9-, , , and degree.
Each is stocked with a fire red Callaway graphite shaft available in regular, stiff, extra-stiff and senior flex. The is a true player's club. It conforms to a variety of swing styles, with the 9-degree extra stiff shaft being the best performer.
It produces long, penetrating ball flights and is extremely comfortable at impact when hit in the center of the club face. Its kick point gets the ball up quickly, and shaping shots is relatively easy.
The Callaway is not extremely forgiving. Toe shots have the tendency of producing slices while shots off the heel are a bit numbing to the hands. Stock shafts are a bit light but still able to perform well when the ball hits the sweet spot.
The ladies' version of the Big Bertha Titanium Driver includes a flex graphite shaft designed to produce longer drives and more forgiveness. I have had my for over 10 yrs. I have tried a couple drivers with newer technology and have not found one that performs better than the Big Bertha for me. I have a few drivers but the Callaway Big Bertha is the best club I own. I hit it farther than any other club, I recommend it very much.
I have both the Callaway and the Ping G2. I find that the Ping will go further approx 10 yards but is more likely to stray of the middle of the fairway. The Callaway seems to me to be very consistent, though not quite as long, however, playing your second stroke from the fairway is always more likely to improve your round total.
The Callaway definitely appears to have more weight on the sole and for me this contributes greatly to the ability to control the direction and flight shape to a greater degree. Just bought this Callaway Big Bertha Titanium today, took it onto the practice ground and hit it twenty yards further than anything I have tried before.
I found that I needed to to tee it slightly lower than other deep faced drivers I have had for a penetrating ball flight. The Callaway Big Bertha driver is a quality club. Sits well behind the ball, is easy to hit and makes a great solid sound at impact. The flight is penetrating which is what I'm looking for. It looks good and performs just as well.
